Basic strategy to suppress frizz
Dealing with frizz is about "smoothing the cuticle and preventing moisture intrusion." Post-shampoo care is especially important.
- Rubbing hair with a towel
- Leaving hair to air-dry
- Shampooing with hot water
- Skipping combing
- Going out without styling
- Gently pressing water out with a towel
- Drying immediately with a hairdryer
- Washing with 38°C lukewarm water
- Using rinse-off treatment is mandatory
- Coating with oil before heading out
Frizz-fighting tips by hair type
Frizz appears differently depending on hair type. Fine hair tends to go limp in humidity, while thick hair becomes visibly voluminous. It is important to understand your hair type to select the appropriate approach.
For fine/soft hair: A lightweight milk-type treatment is recommended. Heavy oils can weigh hair down, so use a small amount only on the ends. To add volume while controlling frizz, the trick is to lift the roots with a hairdryer and use styling products only on the ends.
For thick/coarse hair: Coat the surface with a substantial oil or butter to physically block moisture. Styling products containing shea butter or argan oil are effective. When using a hairdryer, direct airflow from top to bottom to smooth the cuticle.
Styling techniques to embrace the frizz
Instead of just "eliminating" frizz, another option for the rainy season is to style it intentionally. By applying a styling cream with a wet finish and smoothing the waves in one direction, you can achieve a textured, effortless look. This also puts less stress on your hair than trying to force it to be poker-straight.
- Applied leave-in treatment (oil or cream)
- Dried hair completely from roots to tips with a hairdryer
- Finished with a hair spray coating
- Carried physical protective gear like a hat or scarf
- Kept a styling mist for on-the-go touch-ups
- I use leave-in treatment every morning
- I switched to a shampoo designed for summer/scalp care
- I bought hair UV spray and use it before going out
- I have made weekly hair masks a habit
- I use my hair dryer every night to ensure complete dryness
- I make a habit of wearing a hat or scarf
